Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi’s sculptural style defined organic design in the ‘50s, with pieces like this Vitra Akari lamp. Its design was inspired by parasols and lanterns from the town of Gifu, where each one is still crafted by hand from washi paper and bamboo. This version’s orb-like shade is patterned with black dots that compliment the three spindly metal legs.
